MoneyGram Welcomes Back Home OFWs from Japan

Jul 09, 2018

TOKYO: Joann Omae and Maricel Uchida, Overseas Filipino Workers currently living in Japan, are the winners of MoneyGram's Welcome Home Kabayan promotion honoring OFWs who chose to work abroad to send money and support their loved ones back home. Each woman won a round trip ticket to the Philippines for a reunion with family.

We are excited to help OFWs who work tirelessly to send money back home to their families in the Philippines. This year, we decided to reward two winners instead of one after receiving the positive feedback from our customers, said Sabrina Chan, MoneyGram's marketing manager in APAC.

Joann Omae and Maricel Uchida represent the community of 2.3 million of OFWs working abroad, according to the most recent data from the Philippine Statistics Authority.

Maricel left her home in the Philippines twenty years ago to ease her family's financial burden. Over the years she has built a successful restaurant business in Japan that she manages with her husband. Now, thanks to MoneyGram, she could return home to surprise her beloved aunt.

Joann left for Japan five years ago to look for a job to help support her family back home. Today, she is excited to return to her daughter and her sister thanks to MoneyGram's Welcome Home Kabayan promotion. (PRN)
